Robert Ligthelm is part-time Medical Director at EHM-Hoofddorp where he holds a diabetes clinic. His team oversees the teaching programme for family doctors starting insulin treatment in their practices in The Netherlands.
Prior to this, Dr Ligthelm had been Consultant Physician at the Havenziekenhuis and Institute for Tropical Diseases for 28 years. This appointment led to the initiation of the first modern diabetes clinic in Rotterdam. Dr Ligthelm has taken part in many trials in diabetes research, and is a frequent lecturer to general physicians and diabetes nurses as part of their postgraduate training.
